AN AREA ADVISORY COUNCIL SHALL BE ESTABLISHED FOR EACH ADMINISTRATIVE AREA IN THE DISTRICT.

A. The Area Advisory Council shall foster and promote communication among School Advisory Forums, School Advisory Councils, and the District Advisory Council. The Area Advisory Council shall bring forth recommendations, concerns, and interest from the area and to and from the District Advisory Council.
 
B.  MEMBERSHIP   
1. Membership shall include the School Advisory Forum Chair, or designee; the designated member of the School Advisory Council; the principal from each school within the area; and the area superintendent and area directors. In addition, every effort should be made to include local government officials, civic and business leaders connected with the school, citizens, and students who reside within the administrative area as defined by the District.
2. The officers of the Area Advisory Council shall be elected annually at the final meeting of the school year, a quorum being present. The Chair and the Vice-Chair shall not work as a BCPS employee in the area in which he/she is elected as chair. The officers and representatives of Area Advisory Council shall be as specified in the Area Advisory Council Bylaws.
3. The Chair and Vice-Chair(s) shall be a parent with a child currently enrolled and attending a school within the administrative area.
4. Term: The term of office shall be as specified in the Area Advisory Council Bylaws.

C.  DUTIES   
1. The Area Advisory Council shall assist in the identification of the educational needs and priorities of the schools with the Area.
2. The duties of the Area Advisory Council shall be advisory in nature, none of which will conflict with any of the powers and duties reserved by School Board policy to the area superintendent.
3. The Area Advisory Council shall coordinated community resources and secures community support for the schools.
4. The Area Advisory Council shall serve as the liaison between local School Advisory Forums, School Advisory Councils, the Area Advisory Council, and the District Advisory Council.
5. The Area Advisory Council shall provide assistance to individual School Advisory Forums and School Advisory Councils to understand and fulfill their duties and responsibilities.
6. The Area Advisory Council shall operate within established administrative guidelines.
7. The Area Advisory Council and its subordinate organizations, its officers and members are prohibited from using their titles and/or their positions to endorse or give the impression of endorsing candidates for public office.
 
D.  VOTING RIGHTS   
Voting will be as per Area Advisory Council Bylaws.
